ABOUT ABOUT

The Collegiate Players present The Laramie Project at the Oates Theater in the Hershey Center for the Arts.  Shows will run April 3rd and 4th at 7:30pm, and April 5th at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $15.00 each.

The Laramie Project presents a deeply complex portrait of a community’s response to the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man living in Laramie, Wyoming. In a series of poignant reflections, the residents of Laramie react to the hate crime and surrounding media storm with anger, bewilderment and sorrow. The play portrays the deeply personal impact Matthew’s death had on this small town while also demonstrating the power of the human spirit to triumph over bigotry and violence.

Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of Laramie and used their words and voices to create The Laramie Project. Today it is one of the most performed plays in America and Matthew Shepard’s story continues to resonate and remind us of the need to confront the destructive power of bullying and hate, in all forms.

Due to the content and language in The Laramie Project, this show is suggested for audiences 13 and older.
